DESCRIPTION
In line with NDRMF’s aim and outputs, the proposed project is designed to better protect and enhance the resilience of Communities vulnerable to the negative impacts of multiple natural hazards. The aforementioned outcome is planned to be achieved by carrying out various interventions including 1) Physical infrastructure interventions (Flood Protection Walls, Water Conservation Structures and Land Slide Stabilization), 2) Community mobilization for formation of Community-Level Disaster Risk Management Committees at local/revenue village & union council levels and Capacity building in Community Based Disaster Risk Management, and 3) Capacity building for Community Emergency Response Teams along with provision of emergency response tool kits, the details of which are as follows:

Physical Infrastructure: The said intervention includes i) Construction of Flood protection walls ii) Construction of Water Conservation Structures and iii) Landslide stabilization. A total of 45 flood protection walls, 20 Water Conservation Structures and 45 Land Slide Stabilization works will be carried out under the project. As per discussions during the project appraisal PRCS has submitted detailed designs, cost estimates, vulnerability and hazard assessments of proposed project areas along with social, environment and gender safeguards of 10% sample of proposed infrastructure schemes.

Community-Based Disaster Risk Management: With the proposed geographical coverage in 16 Union Councils of 4 Districts, the project will support the implementation of CBDRM activities in 160 Revenue Villages. The CBDRM component will support the formation of 160 Revenue Village Disaster Risk Management Committees and 16 Union Council Disaster Risk Management Committees. Under the said component at total of 524 (428 at RV level & 48 at UC level) community members are planned to be trained in management of functions of local level DRM committees, development of village/UC level disaster management plans, hazard-specific preparedness skills, early warning, evacuation, basic search and rescue and basic first aid etc.

Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT): Under the proposed project a total 400 individuals are planned to be trained in emergency response. The activity will support in the development of a cadre of local experts with appropriate skills of search & rescue and First Aid. Under the said intervention necessary emergency response tool kit and equipment will be provided at the revenue village level.
